It's GO TIME folks. As we come down the stretch things get really interesting. Each game is a must win for every team (except the Puma, of course). There is no way to predict the three teams that will enter the playoffs for a chance to defeat the Patriots and Ernie. Can the Pats be stopped? Can the Puma not pounce? The playoff roster is truly up for grabs to all contenders. KOCHTEAM moves to 2nd with another win, the Rhetoricians defeat the Cubs to move into a solid third, and the Cubs hang on the final spot with xfl right behind. Then you have Bob Sac who remains relevant with another win, and GB and computer could always see a resurgence with some strong individual players. Anything is possible, do you get it!?! Let's see how this happened.
Matchups
The key matchup this week was the Rhetoricians vs. Cubs. Both teams at 5-5, both teams trying to remain in the playoffs and out of the fourth spot (which will be an eventual showdown with Puma Pounce). Jim's crew, whose potential was clearly documented and declared throughout the season on this very blog, came into the game with a four game win streak, while Ali was hindered by the loss of AP but the triumphant return of Andre Johnson. This had all the makings of a shootout, but ended up a slaughter. Despite 0 SD Defensive points, the Rhetoricians put up huge numbers with 20 from Favre and TO with a big 41 on 4 TDs and 173 yds. Solid days from running and TE Lee led to the decisive win. Ali suffered from injury and a terrible day from the Colts, with Manning and Wayne combining for 12 points. This was certainly a big win for the Rhets, who post Addai, Favre, and Owens every week - scary stuff.
Another important show was KOCHTEAM vs. i miss the xfl. an xfl win would have brought Koch down to fifth and xfl into playoff range, but the costly omission of Randy Moss, who scored over 35 points, led to a TEAM victory. Poor days by Ward, Roth, and Edwards, were overcome with solid days from LT, Westbrook, and 32 big points from the Giants D. Housh and Palmer had good days, but no matter what happened, no Moss meant no victory.
Bob beat the Computer with a completely solid performance across his lineup. Everyone except Tony Gonzalez was in double digits, that is good stuff. The computer suffered from McNabb injury, resulting in 1 point total. This win keeps Andy in the hunt, right behind xfl.
Puma again crushed all competitors this week with a massacre of Golden Boy. Chester Taylor busts out 35, and of course Brady and NE D combine for over 60 points. Like I said, does anyone else matter? Just imagine a week when all PP players put in solid performances, the proposition is hard to imagine. The dominance continues here in KOCHLEAGUE.
High Man (again?)
Yes, Puma goes high again, with a very large 140 points. Brady went out when it was 56-10, so imagine the possibilities. I think 35 fantasy points is pretty good for three quarters. The Puma has only lost once this year, and there are no signs that this will not continue.
Of course, honorable mention must go to Jim's boys, who posted 139 this week and make a bold statement to the league: we are here and ready to take on the mighty cat.
Looking Ahead - The Next Three Weeks
Of course we look ahead to next week's matchups, but let's take a minute to look at the playoff picture as it approaches.
The Rhetoricians face KOCHTEAM, Puma Pounce, and Bob Sac. A win over Koch would help greatly, but facing the Puma could hurt positioning. The Cubs face a tough road with games against the computer, TEAM, and PP. Again, a win over Koch could ensure a playoff berth. It is obvious here that KOCHTEAM has two huge matchups ahead that could determine the whole scene. xfl could claw his way back into the picture against BS and GB, and next week's PP game could prove essential. Bob's wins or losses could ruin seasons or confirm spots. How great!
Next week Rhet and Koch meet in what is a deciding game. Jim has many favorable matchups, and Westbrook faces mighty New England, so this is tight and even.
xfl must try to overcome the onslaught of Puma to stay in the playoff race. More huge days from xfl receivers are a requirement for a chance at this one. A few tough matchups for Ernie could mean this is the vulnerable week.
Ali looks to bounce back against the computer, hoping for much better days from the Colts. The computer does know how to play spoiler, but injuries are starting to shake many things up around the league.
Chicago plays the porous Broncos, giving Val a chance at snapping the losing streak against Sac. Andy can hang around and still smell the playoffs.
Three more weeks decide so many things in KOCHLEAGUE. It is surely an exciting time, and a lot of high scores this week at to the anticipation of another week's battles.
