KOCHLEAGUE is Back!! - Quarter One Review

KOCHLEAGUE is back!! And of course so is the KOCHLEAGUE blog. Since I have started my new job I have WAY less leisure times and have been forced to prioritize, but obviously fantasy football is still somewhere near the top of the list. I am so excited about another year in our league, especially now that we all have a full year under our belts. It should make for better competition, and so far, it seems it has.

The top news items so far is that Val's Golden Boy is the only undefeated team remaining (4-0), all the teams seem to be quite even overall, with every team being vulnerable to defeat each week, and some gambles and letdowns, including Reggie Bush, Michael Turner, and Randy Moss. But it all started with the live draft that was held the Saturday before the season started. It was great fun and very efficient, clocking in at only about 1 hour 20 minutes total time. It was certainly different than a complete auto pick draft, with a lot of uncertainty along the way, as well as the keepers that played a small but nevertheless significant factor.

Intros

Since it is called KOCHLEAGUE, I might as well introduce everyone in relation to me (I am such a narcissist). But seriously....

KOCHTEAM - That's me. Boom.
Golden Boy - That's my wife. Boom Boom!!
Rhetoricians - Jim, my college roommate and co-founder of the World's Unofficial Bathroom rating system: CCPPFATNESS
H.E. Pennypacker - Andy, my friend for life since 7th grade, bearer of a great team name.
Saunders - Ben, another college roommate who has exciting things in his life awaiting.
Puma Pounce - Ernie Stone, my brother-in-law who is really my brother.
Cubs - Allie, Ern's girlfriend, a school teacher as well. Yes.
A-Team - Introducing our newest member, Tim, my cousin who I now get to see each week now that I am living down home.

Week One

Right from the jump, it was clear KOCHLEAGUE was going to be competitive. All of our teams showed strength in different areas, as well as each team with a different vulnerability.

KOCHTEAM 83 Moss's only good week with Brady still in the game
Cubs 80 Colston & Addai do not rise up
Overall an underwhelming affair for both teams

Rhetoricians 80 Westbrook still dominates, along with Pitt D. A great pickup this year.
Puma Pounce 72 Brady goes down, this changes the season for all teams.
Marshawn Lynch is great but not quite enough for last year's champ.

Golden Boy 121 Asserts early dominance with a huge win and a great Bears D. Willie Parker with 31 and the Dallas Duo of TO & Romo at 29.
Saunders 56 The Bengals stink it up and give no chance this week.

A-Team 128 The gamble of Reggie Bush and Michael Turner pays off, with 22 and 34, respectively.
Pennypacker 96 Gore (20) & McNabb (26) show good things to come for H.E.

High Man
A-Team takes the honors with 128, GB a close second at 121, everyone else way behind. In fact, Andy would have beat most of the other teams this week with a 96.

Week Two

The second week just about leveled everyone, with three week one losers avenging their loss immediately.

Pennypacker 126 The true team shines here, with Giants D 30, Brandon Marshall 22.
Saunders 82 Another let down, with LT 3, Palmer 3. What is going on??

Golden Boy 120 Again, Romo & TO, with Santana Moss and Chicago D all above 20 points
Rhetoricians 99 Cleveland & Cincinnati stunk it up, with almost all in single digits

Cubs 82 Low scoring but picking up the W, AP 18, Plaxico 14
A-Team 72 Michael Turner with only 4 points, little WR help this week

KOCHTEAM 93 Moss and Ryan Grant emerge with 2, Bolden's 32 points not enough
Puma Pounce 129 Aaron Rodgers replace Brady with 25, Calvin Johnson 24, all but one player puts in double digits. Shades of last year.

High Man
Puma Pounce takes it with 129 in a week with three teams over 120!! The firepower of KOCHTEAM is revealed.

Week Three

Week Three was the closest week yet, and Golden Boy extends the win streak to three.

Golden Boy 69 TO 1, Parker 2, Ward 3, still wins!
KOCHTEAM 67 Moss 2, Braylon 2, NE D -4. That's right, -4 lost it for me.
This was pure slop, but a two point loss bites no matter what.

Puma Pounce 91 Lynch 23, Julius Jones a nice pick up at 20
Cubs 80 Roth with 0!, Andre Johnson 2, Plax 4, Ali not happy

Pennypacker 116 Gore is finally a stud this year after much hype (22), Brandon Marshall 21, Fitz 16. Andy's team is unstoppable if all these players hit on the same week.
Rhetoricians 103 Strong showing again in a loss, PHI D 26, Housh 20, Lots of double digits but just not quite enough.

Saunders 123 Reaches the paper numbers this week, LT 20, Barber 19, Minn D wakes up with 32
A-Team 107 Another high scoring game that didn't quite make it. Bush/Turner 24/28, but everyone else chokes in single digits.

High Man
Saunders sees his team on top with 123, and Pennypacker comes in second yet again.

Week Four

A couple of close matches leads to last minute victories in the first bye week.

Cubs 94 Andre Johnson 3, Dallas D 4, LJ not enough with 29
GB 98 Cowboys 37, Moss with 14. Good teams squeak these ones out.
Came down to the last moments of MNF, a real nailbiter.

KOCHTEAM 124 Big performances by Brees 25, Lee Evans 16, SD D 22
Pennypacker 112 The old story: many points yet not enough. SJax 24.

Puma Pounce 81 Overall poor day, vulnerable but "lucky"
A Team 30 Tim takes the loss on a big Colts bye week. Let's see if the strategy pans out.

Saunders 92 Ben comes back to .500, Jennings & LT both with 22
Rhetoricians 58 Four players on bye were not subbed.

High Man
KOCHTEAM takes high man this week, beating the only other team to go over one hundred. H.E.'s third straight week in second for most points.

Standings

After one quarter of the season, Val's Golden Boy is the only team still undefeated at 4-0. Puma Pounce stands at 3-1 with some tactful play and waiver wire working. Penny, KOCH, and Saunders stand even, and the other teams are 1-3. Early pecking order or deceiving sense of false confidence. We shall see my friends.
